I woke up on a cold September morning and at first it seemed like any other day.
But I had no idea at first of what my fate was bringing;
if I had I would have slept right through the day.
I must admit I should have seen it coming.
Looking back, this was a bed that I had made.
But now I’m up to my knees here in a pool of desperation,
with no sign of dry land that I can see.

Chorus 1
And I feel my world is coming down in a hurry,
And I guess I’ve worn my welcome out again.
How do I get myself mixed up in all these situations?
I sure am glad the drawing board is my friend.

Verse 2
Like a fire that burns right through the forest and blackens all the earth and grays the sky,
It only takes a little bit of precious rain and sunshine to make it grow back greener every time.

Chorus 2
When you feel your world is coming down in a hurry.
And you feel like life has pushed you down again.
Well get right back up and take a look around you and remember that the drawing board is your friend.
